Upcloud is one of Finland’s unmanage cloud hosting providers. What is unmanage? Unmanage is a server / hosting service that must be configured by itself to be used to run a website or an application. Upcloud already has 6 datacenter in several countries, namely Finland, United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Singapore. I have been using UpCloud for more than two years and it is still very satisfying. This article will discuss about the flexibility of one of UpCloud’s products, Block Storage.
UpCloud Simple Pricing
UpCloud is one of the cheapest VPS cloud providers, with only $ 5, you get Cloud VPS with 1GB RAM, 1 Core CPU and 25GB of storage. Upcloud’s advantage is that they have MaxIOPS technology for their storage and claim that MaxIOPS is faster than SSD. Here is a price list from UpCloud.
You can try cloud hosting for free for 3 days just by registering with UpCloud and verifying credit cards, but your credit card will not be charged at the time of trial, credit cards will be charged if the trial period is up and you make payments to use upcloud service so on. You can also get a credit of $ 50 that can be used for 60 days by using the promo code “semigataweb” or click on this link.
What is MaxIOPS Block Storage?
MaxIOPS block storage is a storage service developed by UpCloud for superior performance. Besides this block storage is very easy to add to a server that is running very easily, in just seconds without losing our data. However, the addition limit of 2TB for 1 block volume.
Block storage is very easy to move from server A to server B, provided the capacity must be the same. For example we want to move locations to from San Jose to London. After the London cloud server has been deployed the next step is to replace the newly created block storage with the old block storage so that it does not spend time downloading and uploading backup files and the London server can directly run applications from the old server.
The advantage of UpCloud block storage is that you can add new storage and combine it with old storage if the old storage is still lacking. The way to combine the two storage by following the guidelines on how to add and delete storage.
In the example image above you can add new storage that is still empty or add from an existing one before.
With MaxIOPS block storage we can also clone data and all systems that have been formed so that it is easy and fast in the deployments process. The time used to deploy cloud servers in UpCloud is only about 45 seconds after that the server can be used.
UpCloud has a backup feature that is simple and quick to take snapshots without disturbing the performance of the server. UpCloud will do the entire backup not just the file system so that one day when there is damage to the system that is running then just do a backup file backup according to the desired date without having to do a reinstall and reconfigure.
UpCloud has 3 backup plans, namely weekly, monthly and yearly. Weekly backups will be done regularly every day for 7 days. Monthly backups will be carried out for 4 weeks plus daily while annual backups will be carried out every day throughout the year. The following is an example of the price of each backup plan.
Example above for a simple plan cloud server priced at $ 10.
The plans include the following backups:
- Week plan with 7 daily backups a week, +20% of your cloud server plan price.
Additional storage outside the plan $0.05 per GB
- Month plan with 4 weekly backups retained for a month + 7 daily backups, +40% of your monthly plan price
Additional storage outside the plan $0.10 per GB
- Year plan with 12 monthly backups for a year + 7 daily and 4 weekly backups, +60% of your monthly plan price
Additional storage outside the plan $0.15 per GB
MaxIOPS Block Storage Benchmark Test
We will try to see the performance of the block storage offered by UpCloud which has MaxIOPS technology using the bechmark bench.sh script. In this experiment we use a cloud server located in Singapore and the following results.
Based on testing above the cloud server uses Intel Xeon Gold 6136 at a speed of 3.00 GHz, while the I/O speed of the storage is 420MB/s, this speed matches the average value of SSDs in general and with a value of this size is pretty good to run a website or application. The download speed for certain nodes has a very fast speed of more than 100MB/s.
